Kindergarten Oral Language Program (KOLP)

At Nulsen Primary School our Kindy program has a strong emphasis on oral (verbal) and aural (listening) language, in order to build the foundation skills for students to achieve positive outcomes in reading and writing throughout their school years.

KOLP is a whole class language program that is delivered by the Speech Pathology Department at Esperance Population Health. The Speech Pathologist works with the Kindy staff to target the following:

• Phonological Awareness — Helping your child hear sounds in words. A precursor to reading and writing

• Grammar Oral Narrative – Helping your child tell stories using correct grammar and structure. 

• Comprehension – Supporting your child to understand concepts and questions.

• Vocabulary – Growing the number of words your child understands and uses.
